Dresden woman wins $100K, plans to make family happy

Playing an instant crossword lottery ticket has paid off handsomely for a Dresden woman after playing the lottery for nearly 20 years.

Cheryl Hyatt is celebrating after winning the top prize of $100,000 with Instant Crossword Tripler.

Hyatt, a mother and grandmother, told the Ontario Lottery Gaming Corporation (OLG) that she is thrilled with her first big win.

“I was playing my ticket when I started to count the words I had matched. I checked the prize legend on the back of the ticket and realized I had won $100,000,” said Hyatt while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings. “I told my husband I thought I’d won, and he suggested head to the store to have it validated right away. I said, let’s have supper first,” she chuckled.

Hyatt said she and her husband went to the store after enjoying their meal and got her ticket validated.

"Sure enough, I was right; I had won the top prize! The clerk was so excited for me, which made the experience even more joyous,” Hyatt smiled. “I plan to buy my husband and daughter new cars. As long as they’re happy, I’m happy,” she concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Sonny’s Variety on Lindsley Street West in Dresden.
